Maurice Louca is one of the most gifted, prolific, and adventurous figures in Egypt’s thriving experimental arts scene. His genre-defying music bridges psychedelic Egyptian shaabi, cosmic jazz, and improvisation. In his latest project Fera, hypnotic polyrhythms take the forefront for a trance-inducing experience that invites both movement and careful listening.

Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Louca plays in The Dwarfs of East Agouza with avant-punk icon Alan Bishop and experimental composer Sam Shalabi. He formed the trio Lekhfa with Maryam Saleh and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh. Louca’s ensemble, Elephantine, features jazz musicians from Italy, Sweden, and Germany. اe is also known for several acclaimed solo albums, including 2021's Saet El Hazz (The Luck Hour).

Zgomot (Romanian for “noise") is a Richmond-based avant-rock band fueled by Ukrainian and Romanian absurdist poetry. Founded in Richmond and now returning after an eight-year hiatus, Zgomot features Pippin Barnett on drums, Stevie Ray Williams on bass, and Vlad Cuiujuclu on guitar and vocals. They are known for their unconventional rhythms and raw sound, drawing on Richmond’s experimental music legacy while infusing it with a distinct Eastern European flair.
