Experience blues music performed by a wide range of artists in an intimate setting. Each show includes a segment where musicians in the audience will have a chance to join the featured performer on stage for a jam session. Our spotlight performer is the legendary Duchess of the Blues, LADY E.
Lady E - the Duchess of the Blues - has been singing her spirit for more than 70 years. With her iconic contralto voice, she interprets a vast catalog of blues and jazz with her own unique arrangements. Lady E's extraordinary energy and deep love for the music of her idols has inspired generations of musicians in Richmond and beyond. This special performance will also include interludes in which The Duchess reflects on her musical adventures over the years, with personal stories about Tina Turner, Curtis Mayfield, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
The backing band includes: Chris Sclafani (sax); Jonathan Watson (trombone); Kevin Kuzas (guitar); Dave Nardo (bass); Morgan Huff (drums / set 1); Mary Elfner (drums / set 2); Tom Illmensee (keys/piano).
Set 1: The ensemble performs a set of their favorite tunes. (45-50 mins)
Set 2: The ensemble plays another shorter set (30+ mins)
Set 3: The band hosts a mini jam session with musicians in the audience. Bring your own instrument or borrow one of ours. Sign up and further details at the club. (30 mins)
