Founded in New York City in 1967, Blood, Sweat and Tears (also know as BS&T), is the band synonymous with the musical idiom of “Jazz-Rock”. Sometimes known as “Fusion”, Jazz-Rock emerged during the late 60’s as an attempt to “fuse” the visceral power of rock music with the musical complexity and improvisational energy of jazz music. BS&T were pioneers of this new and exciting musical idiom and made excellent use of a rock instrumental rhythm section combined with a sophisticated and studied horn ensemble. Add to these components exceptional song writing and a powerful lead vocal and the rest is history.
Fast forward to 2024, Blood, Sweat and Years - The Tribute takes flight featuring a stellar roster of veteran artists who grew up during the 60’s and witnessed the evolution of jazz-rock and the iconic band Blood, Sweat and Tears. Comprised of a four piece rhythm section (guitar, bass, drums and piano/organ), a five piece horn section (two trumpets, trombone and two saxes) and featuring recording artist, Julius Ray Pittman on lead vocals, Blood, Sweat and Years is dedicated to bringing the BS&T songbook of hits and their legendary jazz arrangements to a new and exciting level. Join us for an evening of truly inspired music.
Opening the show is the powerhouse acoustic duo - DUMPSTER FIRE SERENADE - playing a set of classic covers and eclectic deep cuts. The group features Scott Schuppert (vocals, guitars, compositions, and arrangements) and David Bragassa (vocals, guitars, mandolin, steel guitar, compositions, and arrangements). Scott and David have deep roots in Richmond's rock and roll scene playing in infamous bands like Rocket 69, Bullfrog, Mudd Helmet, Octane Saints, Nat King Kong, and Beex.
