A rare performance by a 10-piece ensemble featuring Trey’s original compositions as well as his arrangements of classic songs from the Great American Songbook, pieces by jazz visionaries like Ornette Coleman and Wayne Shorter, and songs by Soundgarden and the Beach Boys.

Trey Pollard is a guitarist, composer, arranger and orchestrator based in Richmond, VA with a toe in many different genres, from jazz to indie rock and contemporary classical music. As an arranger/orchestrator he’s written for artists like Faye Webster, Snail Mail, Kevin Morby, Butcher Brown, Mandy Moore, Bedouine, Natalie Prass, The Hold Steady, Weyes Blood, Foxygen, Matthew E. White and had his arrangements performed by orchestras like The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, The Atlanta Symphony, The Richmond Symphony and others in venues like Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles and The Barbican in London. He has recorded and conducted his arrangements in studios located in Richmond, New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and London.

As a guitarist, Trey has toured extensively in the US and Europe and performed with artists such as Foxygen, Natalie Prass, Steve Wilson, Matthew E. White, Rene Marie, Joe Locke, Michael McDonald, Sara Bareilles, Helado Negro, Jason Mraz, Josh Groban, Lola Kirke, and Laetita Sadier (Stereolab). He composed music for the acclaimed 2017 podcast S-Town, from the creators of Serial and This American Life. Trey released his first solo album of “new classical” chamber music compositions called Antiphone in November of 2018. In 2022, Rex Richardson commissioned Trey to compose the trumpet concerto The More They Stay The Same, which was premiered with the Richmond Symphony. Trey is also the owner/founder of Straight Ahead Samples, which creates cutting-edge sample libraries. He is also co owner of Spacebomb Group, a production company, recording studio and record label based in Richmond.

This show features Trey on guitar alongside a rhythm section of Cameron Ralston on bass and Billy Williams on drums. The trio will be joined by a seven-piece string section drawn from some of the best players in the Richmond scene.
