After more than a decade of writing songs together, acclaimed Richmond musicians Steve Bassett and BJ Kocen found themselves with a collection of songs unlike anything either had created before. Guided more by intuition than intention, the material gradually took shape around themes of hope, spirituality, grace, and finding light in uncertain places. Musically, the songs draw inspiration from the soulful restraint of Muscle Shoals and the rich vocal harmonies of Laurel Canyon, creating a warm, timeless sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly original.

Originally envisioned as a Bassett/Kocen recording project, everything changed during an intimate performance at Gramophone Winery when longtime friend and singer Justin Laughter joined the pair for a handful of harmonies. The room grew quiet. The chemistry was undeniable. Laughter was invited into the recording sessions, and before long, The Feal had become something far greater than anyone expected—a new band with a distinct voice all its own.

The result is The Feal, a self-titled debut album that favors honesty over spectacle, melody over flash, and genuine human connection over noise. It is a record made to be lived with—one that reveals itself a little more with each listen.

To bring those songs to life, The Feal assembled an extraordinary cast of musicians from Richmond’s celebrated music community, including Tyler Williams (The Head & The Heart) on drums and percussion, Curtis Fye (Spacebomb) on bass, Charles Arthur on guitar, Jeff Bunn (P-Funk Mob) on bass, Pinson Chanselle (Spacebomb) on drums, and guitarist Willie Williams, whose expressive playing became such an integral part of the sessions that he has affectionately become an honorary member of The Feal.

Several tracks also feature the full lineup of The Potluck—Steve Bassett, Willie Williams, Stewart Myers, Daniel Clarke, and Dusty Ray Simmons—whose unmistakable chemistry made them the perfect choice to share the stage for this special evening.

With only 107 seats, shows at Révéler are intimate and immersive. A romantic venue with exquisite sound and dreamy vibes, Révéler offers a unique selection of cocktails, wines, beers, bubbles, and non-alcoholic beverages. Our kitchen delivers small plates crafted with care.
