Pretty flattering words, aren't they? They came from the mouth of the most legendary talent scout in the history of American popular music, John Hammond, Sr., the man who discovered and nurtured the careers of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Billie Holliday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughan and so many others. One could surmise that Mr. Hammond knew a thing or two about American music. His uncanny knack for discovering new talent earned him the respect of musicians worldwide throughout his long and distinguished career. And Mr. Hammond's words ring true as you hear Steve for yourself.
Born and raised in the South, Steve Bassett began his music career in 1963 and has spent over six decades blending blues, soul, gospel, rock, and jazz. Known for his powerful voice and legendary Hammond B3 playing, he has released 25 albums, sung on over 100 network jingles, and had his songs recorded by top R&B artists. His co-written anthem “Sweet Virginia Breeze” is the official popular state song of Virginia.
Steve Bassett continues to perform and recently released the encore edition of his memoir, SING LOUD: Memoir of a Life in Music. He has received the Theresa Pollak Prize for Excellence in the Arts and was inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame. As producer John Hammond, Sr. noted, Bassett is “a singer’s singer” whose soulful style connects across generations.
This special one-night-only presents Steve at Révéler's superb grand piano with just a microphone to convey his songs and stories from the productions of his many albums, travels on the road, and collaborations through the years.
With only 107 seats, shows at Révéler are intimate and immersive. A romantic venue with exquisite sound and dreamy vibes, Révéler offers a unique selection of cocktails, wines, beers, bubbles, and non-alcoholic beverages. Our kitchen delivers small plates crafted with care.
