All-star quartet with Daniel Clarke on piano, 10 years world touring with k.d. Lang; Paul Langosh on bass, 20 years world touring with Tony Bennett; Jeff Massanari on guitar, a San Francisco-based performer and educator with five albums; and Robert Jospé on drums, music educator at UVA for 31 years, band leader for 28 years with the Virginia Commission for the Arts with eight albums.
Robert Jospé was inspired by his Belgian parents love of music and began playing the drums at fourteen. He had his first professional performance in France at the age of sixteen. While attending the Cambridge School of Weston in Weston, Massachusetts, Jospé enrolled in the Berklee College of Music summer session and began formal training on drums. Upon graduating from the Cambridge School, Jospé moved to New York City to attend New York University. Over the next twelve years he became an active player in the New York jazz and rock scene as well as co-leader of the fusion band Cosmology.
Jospé studied with Tony Williams and Bob Moses and performed with Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, John Schofield and John Abercrombie. Throughout his career Jospé has played and recorded with many bands and in many musical styles including Tim Reynolds and TR3, (rock/reggae/fusion), John McCutcheon and SGGL, (folk rock), Robin and Linda Williams, (folk) with the John D’earth Quartet, the Jeff Decker Quartet with pianist Hod O’Brien and Royce Campbell (straight ahead jazz), Heather Maxwell (soul and Afro-Pop), and with Tony Bennett.
Daniel Clarke is a multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer/teacher born and raised in Richmond, VA. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Jazz Studies program, Daniel has anchored Richmond-based groups such as Modern Groove Syndicate, the Devil’s Workshop Big Band and Neighborliness, and has gone on to perform and record all over the world. His playing has been heard everywhere from the White House to the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Daniel’s eclectic and prodigious musicianship can’t be contained by one specific genre. His ear for quality has made him a sought after collaborator by artists such as k.d. lang, Ryan Adams, The War on Drugs, Mandy Moore, Jason Mraz, René Marie, and countless others spanning all genres.
Guitarist Jeff Massanari was born in Goshen,Indiana and moved to Washington DC at age 9. Exposed to the vibrant music scene of Washington, Jeff sought out the guitar and began playing at age 13. By the time he was 17 he was performing and teaching jazz and blues in the Washington DC area. Jeff's love of jazz took him from DC to Boston's Berklee School of Music. After studying performance and composition, Jeff moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and quickly became one of the most in-demand guitarists. Jeff has performed with many of the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier artists including vocalists Paula West, Brenda Boykin, Denise Perrier, Nicolas Bearde, Kenny Washington, and Pamela Rose, and instrumentalists Wally Schnalle, Jeff Pittson, Charles McNeil, Vince Lateano, Noel Jewkes, Charlie McCarthy, and Jeff Chambers. In addition to performing with his own groups, Jeff regularly plays with The Johnny Nocturne Band, The Murasaki Ensemble, Swing Fever, and countless other musicians in the Jazz, Blues, and World music genres. Jeff has performed at Yoshi’s, Pearl’s, Davies Symphony Hall, San Jose Jazz Festival, Fillmore Jazz Festival, North Beach Jazz Festival, and the Sausalito Arts Festival. Internationally Jeff has performed in Japan, Sweden, Finland, Guam, and Italy at the Umbria Jazz Festival. He has released five CDs as a leader. Jeff has taught at U.C. Berkeley, The Jazz School, Jazz Camp West, Bruce Forman’s Jazzmaster series, and Blue Bear Music School.
Paul Langosch began his studies on the double bass in 1969 with Albert Webster of the National Symphony and later continued private lessons with William Vaughn, also of the National Symphony. He began his college studies at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD, later attending American University in Washington, DC and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. Paul has worked with many of the leaders in the jazz world including: Phil Woods, Tal Farlow, Al Cohn, Mose Allison, Johnny Hartman, Bud Shank, Zoot Sims, Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis. Paul’s touring credits include tours with Jon Hendricks, George Shearing, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Torme, Susanna McCorkle and Conte Candoli. In 1985 Paul was invited by Tony Bennett to become a permanent member of his trio. His association with Mr. Bennett lasted over 20 years.
