The RECKONING band features some of Virginia’s finest musicians: Louis Smith on vocals and guitar, Stewart Myers on vocals and bass, Dusty Ray Simmons on drums, Brian Jones on drums and percussion, and Willie Williams on vocals and guitar. Their collective resume is impressive, having recorded and/or toured with Kendall Street Company, Jason Mraz, Shawn Colvin, Liz Phair, Agents of Good Roots, Cris Jacobs Band, Karl Denson, DJ Williams, Dickey Betts’ Great Southern, Wayne Henderson, Lee Roy Parnell, and many more.

"On June 14, 1970, the Grateful Dead released WORKINGMAN’S DEAD, an album that was unlike anything they’d ever done, one that showed the world a new side of the Dead. It was clearly the same band as before, but now with a distinctly different sound and approach to the music, pivoting from psychedelic improvisation to folk-rock storytelling for the “everyman,” as the album’s title suggests. With eight perfect songs – like “Casey Jones” and “High Time” – the album solidified the Jerry Garcia-Robert Hunter songwriting tandem as one of the best and most important songwriting collaborations in music history. The album reached the Top Thirty and included the single “Uncle John’s Band,” which climbed to #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart." - DEAD.NET

"A companion piece to the luminous Workingman's Dead, American Beauty is an even stronger document of the Grateful Dead's return to their musical roots. Sporting a more full-bodied and intricate sound than its predecessor thanks to the addition of subtle electric textures, the record is also more representative of the group as a collective unit, allowing for stunning contributions from Phil Lesh (the poignant opener, "Box of Rain") and Bob Weir ("Sugar Magnolia"); at the top of his game as well is Jerry Garcia, who delivers the superb "Friend of the Devil," "Candyman," and "Ripple." Climaxing with the perennial "Truckin'," American Beauty remains the Dead's studio masterpiece -- never again would they be so musically focused or so emotionally direct." - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
