Marcus "Tennishu" Tenney is a Richmond-based artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist blending hip-hop, jazz, soul, and electronic textures into a deeply personal sound. Best known as the trumpeter, saxophonist, and MC for Butcher Brown, he’s also carved a unique solo path marked by introspective lyricism, cinematic beats, and spiritual overtones. His solo projects—including More To The Story, Non Violent EP, and Forward EP—capture moments of growth, reflection, and resilience, with production that fuses analog warmth and digital experimentation. Tennishu’s artistry lives at the intersection of raw emotion and refined skill, offering music that’s as thought-provoking as it is sonically rich.
In 2026, with his Virginia-bred collective Butcher Brown, Tennishu performed alongside GRAMMY Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, producer, and arranger Nicholas Payton for A Supreme Blue, a bold and deeply considered reimagining of two of the most revered albums in recorded music, Miles Davis's Kind of Blue (1959) and John Coltrane's A Love Supreme (1965).
The augmented trio includes Dr. Weldon Hill (piano); Michael Hawkins (bass); and Israel Bannerman (drums).
