Joseph Henson 4tet

Joseph Henson 4tet

An evening of incandescent jazz from a quartet of local legends.

Formerly a member of the US Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, bandleader and saxophonist Joseph Henson performs regularly in the D.C. area with a wide variety of groups, including his own quintet. Over the course of more than 30 years, Henson has collabrated with many iconic jazz artists such as Dr. Billy Taylor, Dee Dee Bridgewater, James Moody, Bill Watrous, Chris Potter, and Wycliff Gordon.

In this rare Richmond performance, Henson's group includes Michael Hawkins on bass, Dr. Weldon Hill on piano, and Steve Fidyk drums. Drawing on repetoire from Henson's albums A Thousand Words, Transformation, and Groovesonic, the quartet will also put their unique stamp on jazz standards and bop from McCoy Tyner, Charlie Parker, and Tadd Dameron.
