Isaiah Sharkey stands at the confluence of modern soul, jazz, R&B, and Black American guitar tradition, carrying forward a lineage that links George Benson, Curtis Mayfield, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix while forging a vocabulary entirely his own. A Grammy Award–winning guitarist, vocalist, composer, and producer, Sharkey has become one of the most respected musicians of his generation—celebrated for his sophisticated harmonic sensibility, unmistakable tone, and ability to shape-shift effortlessly between musical worlds.

Born and raised on Chicago’s North Side in a deeply musical family, Sharkey was immersed from childhood in gospel, jazz, and classic R&B. His father, a working musician, recognized early his son’s extraordinary ear and feel, guiding him through professional-level repertoire before most children his age would form basic chords. By the time he was 14, Sharkey was touring nationally; by his late teens, he had already become a first-call session player in Chicago’s tight-knit recording community.

Sharkey’s breakthrough into the international spotlight came through his long-standing creative relationship with D’Angelo. His guitar work on D’Angelo’s landmark album Black Messiah earned him a Grammy Award and positioned him among the most innovative guitarists shaping contemporary Black music. From that point forward, Sharkey’s trajectory accelerated: he became a go-to collaborator for a wide range of artists including John Mayer, H.E.R. Robert Glasper, Cory Henry, Lettuce, Chris Dave & The Drumhedz, Lalah Hathaway, Common, Paul Simon, Brian McKnight, Greg Phillinganes among many others.

As a solo artist, Sharkey has developed a distinctive, emotionally resonant sound that blends deep-pocket groove, virtuosic improvisation, and songwriter-driven storytelling. His current album, RED, introduced audiences to his modern fusion of soul, R&B, jazz, and guitar-based narrative. His follow-up projects—each expanding his sonic palette—solidifies his standing as an artist capable of speaking fluently to instrumental purists and mainstream audiences alike.

Sharkey is equally at home on global festival stages, intimate jazz clubs, and stadium tours. His work has spanned as an MD for Raphael Saadiq's NBA All-Stars televised performance, to late-night television appearances, to the Grammys televised tribute to Quincy Jones and Blue Note residencies. Yet his most defining characteristic remains his musical integrity: a commitment to depth, craft, and authenticity.

A multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer, Sharkey’s creative range continues to grow. As demonstrated by his commanding presence at the 2026 BET Awards tribute to D’Angelo—where he served as musical director, guitarist, vocalist, and featured performer—Sharkey’s artistry thrives in integrations of analog and electronic texture, guitar-forward harmonic architecture, and songwriting rooted in personal truth. Whether performing his own music or elevating the work of others, Sharkey brings the same signature qualities—precision, warmth, spirituality, and an unshakeable sense of groove.

The ensemble includes: Isaiah Sharkey (guitar/vocals), Eric Johnson (drums), Jeremy Timothy Tribitt (keyboards), and Maurice Fitzgerald (bass).
